Veron Ikon Sacred Arts Guild of the Eucharist
Sacred art in a broad sense is any art instilled with a sense of God or directed toward Him. In the Specific sense used here it refers to those skills related to the construction and furnishing of Sacred buildings. Sacred buildings are those whose primary functions are liturgical or buildings which house the Eucharist. Note:While music has a longstanding liturgical function it is beyond the present scope of S.A.G.E.
A sacred artist is an person who has consecrated their life and skills to the service of the Church as a vocation. Creating art with a religious theme makes one a Religious artist but says little of the inner dispositions. In S.A.G.E. the title of Sacred Artist is reserved for those who have consciously chosen to make of themselves a vessel of Christ Presence while through art making that Presence alive to the senses of the faithful..
To support those with artistic skill, who feel a call by God to devote their skills exclusively to the service of the Church and Eucharistic presence.
To promote an understanding of and a proficiency in the techniques, traditions and principles upon which Christ-centered Sacred Art is founded.
To promote through art the dignity of the human person;"temple of the Spirit", especially in the vulnerable unborn and elderly.
To faithfully promote true Catholic doctrine, liturgy and Tradition by means of the Sacred arts.
The patronness of S.A.G.E is Our Lady of Guadalupe. The conversion of the Aztecs and their acceptance of the Church was accomplished by means of a visual representation. The tilma bearing the image of the Virgin Mary "told a story" of grace in a meaningful way to the culture to which it was given. This is the example which every Sacred artist must strive to imitate in art.
